Description

Objective – Photograph a colorful subject against a dark background using a soft light. No direct sun on the background or the subject or in the scene. Setup – The photograph was taken indoors during the late afternoon in my living room against a black cloth background. The lighting was poor but I could get some advantages back by pushing the ISO and using larger aperture and a tripod. I used a sheet of foam core to capture a ray of light coming from the kitchen window coming down a hallway. The reflection was at an angle about 15 degrees from the plane of the scene. If you look at the left side of the image you can see how this light comes into the scene. This was just enough to put some life into an otherwise flat scene. It also added the warmth of evening sun reflected onto the left sided buds and flowers. In 10 minutes the light was gone. This image was converted from a raw image and sharpened slightly.
